Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 10th, 2021:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore volleyball player, Carmyn Huston. Carmyn helped her team in nearly every way possible last week in three matches. She led the team in total assists, with 31, and service aces, with 7. Carmyn was also second in digs with 27 and helped out at the net, as well, with 10 kills.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Maddy Diaz. Maddy had a big hand in the Red Storm’s 3rd place finish in the United Invitational Tournament. Her versatility was showcased all day. In five matches, Maddy handed out 68 assists, hustled her way to 29 digs, smashed six kills and served nine aces.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Carly Tate. Carly had a great, and busy, week that contained eight total matches. She led the Heat in assists, including 32 in five tournament matches. Carly also led the team in digs, with 25, and service aces, with seven, at the same tournament.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls swimmer, Olivia Owen. Olivia had a great week, full of top-five results. She had three, first-place finishes in a dual meet against Metamora. Olivia earned another top-five finish at the highly competitive United Township Panther Invitational, garnering a 4th place in the 50 yard freestyle event.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior boys cross country runner, Micah Rodeffer. Micah was the fop finishing Tornado runner at the Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet at Kewanee Dunes. His 3-mile time of 20:10.3 was good enough for 19th place. Earlier this season, Micah placed 29th at the Monmouth-Roseville Invite.
