The Abingdon-Avon Tornado football team won their first postseason game since 2014 last Friday night. The Tornadoes beat their fellow Lincoln Trail Conference members, the Annawan/Wethersfield Titans 14-8 on a muddy, slippery playing surface. The conditions slowed down both team’s offenses and surely changed the game plans that both head coach’s had coming into the game.
After giving up 40 points to United in the regular season finale, the Tornadoes got back to what led them throughout most of the regular season. Aggressive defense is what Abingdon-Avon head coach Rick Quinn says takes to win in the postseason, especially against their second round opponent, a physically imposing Iroquois West.
Iroquois West knocked off United last Saturday afternoon 35-26. The Tornadoes host the Iroquois West Raiders at A-Town High School in Abingdon on Saturday afternoon at 1:00. You can hear the game on Sunny 97.7 WMOI and online at radiomonmouth.com, with the pregame show at 12:40.
