“Heavenly” Delivery of New Beds for Families in Need

Share

“Sleep in Heavenly Peace” is a national nonprofit association, comprised of a dedicated corps of volunteers who build, assemble and deliver new bunk beds to children and families in need.

A local chapter based in the Hancock County community of La Harpe serves western Illinois families within a 50-mile radius.

Diana Higgins is the wife of chapter co-president Darin Higgins. She describes what it’s like to see a young child receive a brand-new bed.

“To date we have delivered 10 beds, and we have four in the hopper,” Diana Higgins said Monday during a “Community Hour” interview on WRAM. “I’ve been able to go on one of those deliveries. My husband I went to deliver for three little boys in the same household.

“It is such a touching experience to walk in and see the kids so excited. They could not wait for us to get done, so that they could enjoy their new beds. It’s truly God’s work, and a great organization to be part of.”

For more information about applying for or requesting a bed, visit the “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” website at shpbeds.org, or call the La Harpe office (844) 432-2337, ext. 5557.
