Buying toys online can bring trouble. Experts say you could purchase a counterfeit toy that might be a rip-off or even worse – dangerous.
The Illinois Attorney General is launching their annual safe shopping guide. Abe Scarr, with Illinois PRIG, a group that advocates for the public interest says shopping on-line brings another level of danger by not being able to see what you are buying, and it could leave you with a toy that could harm a child.
“Making matters worse when you can’t see a product before you purchase it, there is a greater chance you will end up with a dangerous toy; whether it’s a counterfeit, a knockoff, or mislabel. That is more likely with online purchases. Also, online you may unknowingly buy recalled products. On eBay we saw listings for recalled toys that did not mention the recall or denote whether the toy had been fixed so that it was legal to sell.”
Scarr says tech toys present their own level of danger, consider a blue tooth speaker that would allow anyone to connect to it.
