During the holidays the kitchen becomes the center of the home. Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat reminds individuals to stay in the kitchen while you are cooking:
“Sometimes it is easy to throw something on the stove or put something in the oven and then walk away from it or run up town and get something you forgot, but we would like people to remember to not do that because that is how fires can start very easily and get out of hand. We want everyone to have a Happy Thanksgiving and avoid having any fires in the house.”
Furthermore, be mindful of the placement of candles around decorations.
