MPD Chief Switzer Reminds Motorists of Safe Driving this Holiday Season

Share

Drive sober or get pulled over. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer says extra officers will be out patrolling the roadways this holiday season to crack down on impaired driving:

“This is always something that we want to keep on the front burner is drinking and driving. We do have the holidays coming up and those tend to increase people drinking and driving. We do have extra officers out during the holidays via grants that we receive from the Illinois Department of Transportation and they are out looking specifically for people that have been drinking and driving, seatbelt violations, cellphone violations, you can’t talk on your cellphone while you are driving down the road, and that type of thing. There will be extra officers out.”

Being a responsible driver is simple, if you are drinking, do not drive. Plan ahead for a safe ride home, if someone you know has been drinking do not let them get behind the wheel, call a taxi, ride-sharing service, or a sober friend. If you see an impaired driver out on the road contact local law enforcement.
