Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 14, 2021:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Derek Chandler. Following a fantastic football season, Derek was placed on the IHSFCA Class 3A All-State Honorable Mention list as a running back and linebacker. He led the Titans with nearly 1300 yards rushing, scoring eight touchdowns. Derek was also second on the team with 83 tackles and an interception on defense.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Cormaic Flynn. For his spectacular season on the football field, Cormaic was honored with a spot on the IHSFCA Class 1A All-State team. He rushed for nearly 1300 yards, reaching the endzone 24 times. Cormaic also caught four more touchdowns passes and returned three kickoffs to the house.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Kaiden Droste. Kaiden capped off a great junior year with 88 yards rushing against the top-rated team in all of 8-man football. He also reached the endzone on a 55 yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. Kaiden will surely see some postseason accolades heading his way soon.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys cross country runner, Andrew Peterson. Andrew was the top finisher for the boys squad in nearly every meet this season. He placed 32nd at the Western Big Six Conference championship meet. A few weeks later, Andrew qualified for the IHSA Class 2A sectional meet with a 37th place at the regional event.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Leighton Damewood. Leighton’s disruptive play on the defensive side of the football, garnered him a spot on the IHSFCA Class 1A All-State team. He was one of the leading tacklers on the squad this season, with over 20 of his tackles gotten behind the line of scrimmage.
