Carol Welker, 90, of Monmouth, IL formerly of Little York, IL passed away at 8:50 am, Monday, December 27, 2021, at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth, IL.
Carol was born January 22, 1931, in Warren County, IL the daughter of Harold & Phoebe (Melick) Allen. She was raised and educated in Warren County in the Berwick area, graduating from Avon High School in 1949.
Carol married Vernon D. Welker in Berwick IL, on July 19, 1953 and he passed away on October 24, 2003.
Carol worked as a long-distance phone operator for a short time, also working as a waitress at the Little York Cafe. However, she loved working at Yorkwood School District, where she worked in the Cafeteria at the Elementary School for over 20 years. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” by all the students.
Anyone who knew Carol knows that she was a huge cat lover and very protective of her cats.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Wiechman, of Electra, TX, Candie (Mike) McDonald of Kirkwood, IL and Roberta (Robert) Legendre of Burleson, TX; 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers & 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, December 31, 2021, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be at Cedar Creek Cemetery, Little York, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice Compassus or Legacy Estates in Monmouth and sent to the funeral home.
