Mrs. Dorothy B. Litchfield, 89, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 12:15 pm, Saturday, December 25, 2021, at ProMedica (Heartland Healthcare Center) Skilled Care Facility.
Dorothy was born January 6, 1932, in Galesburg, the daughter of Ray and Blanche (Mason) Suydam. She married Donald Lee Litchfield on July 23, 1952, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death after 63 years of marriage on May 28, 2015.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeffery D. (Teresa) Litchfield of Springfield, Illinois, and Gregory L. Litchfield (Jill Wallace) of Galesburg; one daughter, Pamela S. Litchfield of Champaign, Illinois; one brother, Eugene R. Suydam of Knoxville, Illinois, and two grandsons, Phillip and Peter Litchfield, both of Springfield, Illinois, along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, and sister, Louise (Suydam) Davis.
Dorothy graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951, going on to work at Chandler-Hinchman Insurance Agency, Western Southern Insurance Agency, and Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan Association. Later in life, she became a devoted Homemaker for her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg for more than 50 years. During her free time, Dorothy was an avid gardener and known for her cooking and baking abilities.
Public Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The family will not be present. Private Family Services will follow, with Rev. Kay Daniel officiating. Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Knox County Humane Society or Gordon Behrents Senior Center.
