Personett, Brown Named Second Team
The Monmouth College football team placed four players on the D3football.com All-Region team this week. Defensive end Korbyn Personett (Pittsfield, Illinois) and center Derek Brown (Pekin, Illinois) made the second team while safety Kaleb Plattenberger (Mount Carroll, Illinois) and punter Addison Fletcher (Monmouth, Illinois) made the third team.
All four Monmouth players were also first team All-Midwest Conference selections. Personett, the MWC Defensive Line MVP, broke the Scots single-season sacks record and led the nation in both sacks and tackles for loss in the regular season. Brown played multiple positions on the offensive line and anchored a squad that allowed less than 10 sacks on the season, while averaging 418 yards and 35 points per game. Plattenberger tied for the MWC lead in pass breakups and had two interceptions to go with 63 tackles on the season. Fletcher led the MWC in yards per punt at 39.3 and led the conference with six punts over 50 yards, including a season-best 65 yarder.
The four selections mark the second most for the Scots since the D3football All-Region teams began in 2005. The 2009 team had five players selected while the 2008 and 2011 teams also had four selections. The Scots have placed at least one player on the All-Region team every year since 2005, except for 2007 and 2012. The Scots have had multiple selections in every season dating back to 2016. The Scots have had 38 selections overall in 16 seasons including 15 in six seasons under coach Chad Braun.
Previously, Monmouth players were selected to the West All-Region team. Starting this season, the Scots are part of Region 5 due to the new NCAA Regional alignment. Lake Forest also had four selections as far as Midwest Conference teams go while Chicago, Cornell and Illinois College all had two selections.
