Freddie Eugene Howerton, 76, of Galesburg, died Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at home.

Fred was born March 14, 1945 in Galesburg, the son of Jimmie Hamilton and Gladys Fern (Jones) Howerton.  He married Donna Mae Yeomans on September 3, 1967 in Abingdon, IL.  She survives.  Fred is also survived by one daughter, Lori (Mike) Goff of Galesburg; his three beloved grandchildren, Jordan, Emma, and Seth; and one brother, Ruel (Joan) Howerton of Galesburg.  Along with his parents, Fred was preceded in death by one brother, Robert.

Fred served in the US Air Force for 4 years and was honorably discharged as a SSGT on December 9, 1970.  He went on to work at Admiral, and spent many years working at Wight Chevrolet, and eventually retired from Reynolds & Reynolds Retail Management Systems.

Fred enjoyed listening to country music and in years past enjoyed line dancing.  He also enjoyed creating CD’s with his favorite music and giving them to his grandchildren.  Fred loved to watch sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Alabama Football.  Fred also liked to drive around and enjoy all of natures beauty.  When it came to watching movies, Fred always compared them to his favorite movie, Hunt For Red October. 

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial with military rites will be in Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, IL.  Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choosing.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
