Mrs. Lois M. Johnson, 98, of Galesburg passed away at 3:20 pm Sunday, December 26, 2021, at her home with her daughters by her side.

Lois was born October 4, 1923 in rural Rio, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn M. and Ruby Mariell (Bowen) Young. She married Walter E. Johnson on February 16, 1947 in Galesburg. After 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on October 27, 2006.

Lois is survived by her five daughters, Mary (Bill) Rustemeyer of Normal, Illinois, Karen (Mike) Tuthill of Knoxville, Illinois, Sue Simpson of Rio, Joyce (Danny) Stevens of Gilson, Illinois and Carol (Jurgen) Kukuk of Galesburg; twelve grandchildren, Matt (Nicole) Rustemeyer, Leah Cherry, Michael Tuthill, Joe (Terri) Tuthill, Kerry (Adam) Givan, Dan (Melanie) Tuthill, Jennifer (Joel) Squire, Brad Simpson, Mark (Kylee) Simpson, Emily Johnson, Tressa (Travis) Johnson and Cody (Courtney) Kukuk and eighteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Veryle Bruner, Garnet Hoing, Vada Carlson and Marilyn Ross, two brothers, Robert and Bernard Young and a son-in-law, Greg Simpson.

Lois graduated from Oneida High School in 1941. She married her husband and took on the role of a farmer’s wife. Lois and Walter soon started a family, and she became a busy mother to her five daughters and later a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She was an exceptional baker, known for her homemade cinnamon rolls. Lois was active with her bowling league and enjoyed her neighborhood Bunco Club.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Andrew Wingo will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Rio Fire Department or the Tri County Ambulance.
