The Monmouth Fire Department is kicking off this year’s “Keep the Wreath Red” fire safety campaign. Each year the Fire Department hangs a wreath on the front of the fire station decorated with all red lights. In the event of a structure fire in the community, a red light is changed to white explains Firefighter Justin Thomas:

“So basically, what the wreath entails, we put it out every year at Christmas time and we start off with red lights and anytime there is some type of fire in the community, we will change one of those red lights to white; just so the community is aware of fires that do happen around the area and so they can see what is going on out there.”

During this time of the year, Firefighter Thomas reminds of making sure breakers and outlets are fit with the correct amperage to properly suit lights and space heaters.
