Milan Man Arrested for Driving Wrong Way Under the Influence on I-74

Illinois State Police District 7 announces the arrest of Roque M. Ponce, 54 year-old male of Milan, IL for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving the Wrong Way on a One-Way and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

On Dec. 06, 2021, at approximately 3:28 a.m., an Illinois State Police (ISP) Trooper stopped a wrong-way-driver traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Interstate 74 at milepost 32 (Woodhull), in Henry County. The sole occupant of the vehicle, Roque M. Ponce, 54-year old male of Milan, IL, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Improper Lane Use, Driving the Wrong Way on a One-Way road, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Ponce was transported to Henry County Jail where he was processed and given a $3000 bond. There is no further information available.

On Oct. 17, 2021 on Interstate 74 near Galesburg a wrong-way driver caused a fatal head-on crash. These incidents should serve as a reminder as to the dangers of Driving Under the Influence. This also highlights the importance of removing distractions while driving, you may have to react to something this dangerous.

The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
