Monmouth Rotary Club Bringing Back Pollinators as Next Community Project

Share

Service above self is the moto the Monmouth Rotary Club follows. As people of action, each year the club is involved in several community projects, including recently the Monarch Butterfly Weigh Station at the Monmouth Park. President Nancy Mowen shares the club has planted milkweed and wildflowers to attract the pollinators back to the area:

“We have an area at Monmouth Park where we have planted wildflowers and milkweed that attract the Monarch butterflies. We are losing pollinators in our area and so that will provide a feeding ground. We will be purchasing some larvae and letting them grow and form their chrysalis and watching them turn into butterflies; then we will be releasing them. We are purchasing butterfly kits so that area youth can be involved. We will have some signage out there that explains the whole life cycle of the Monarch butterfly as well as their migration pattern.”

In the New Year, Amber Wood will take on the role of being the next President of the Monmouth Rotary Club.
