Matt MacLachlan, USDA economist, says meats led the way for price hikes last year, but most other foods also rose in price.
“Throughout the year we have had meats certainly as the leading product category that has led to higher food prices overall. We have also seen higher, particularly fresh fruit prices, as well as high fats and oil prices and on a smaller category, eggs have increased by 11.1%.”
