Dorothy L. Washburn, 87, of Peoria IL, passed away at 11:59 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Legacy Estates of Monmouth.
She was born on April 26, 1934 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Albert and Lucille (Schmidt) McCollum. Dorothy was raised and educated in Peoria and attended Manual High School.
Dorothy married James Washburn on May 4, 1952 in Mississippi; he preceded her in death on January 21, 1993.
Dorothy and family moved from Peoria to Monmouth in 1966 and resided there until 1989. She worked in the kitchen of Garfield Grade School from 1975 – 1980. She was an avid reader and loved working puzzles of all types. She also enjoyed getting together with family and playing cards.
Surviving Dorothy are her children, Dennis (Diana) Washburn of Monmouth, IL, Steve (Dawn) Washburn of Monmouth, IL, Lori (John) Birkel of Spring City, TN and Diane Anderson of East Peoria, IL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Shirley Godar of Morton, IL and sister-in-laws, Phyllis McCollum of Bartonville and Beth Washburn of Peoria, IL.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, her parents; husband, James Washburn; and two brothers, Robert & Albert McCollum.
Cremation rites have been accorded. No visitation or services are planned at this time. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
