Local Area Sports Update for 1-3-2022

The first athletic events of 2022 took place last night around the area. The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team lost to Rockridge last Thursday in the championship game of the Cliff Warkins Memorial Tournament in Erie. The Titans didn’t have to wait long to try and avenge the loss as the two teams met again, this time at Rockridge High School. Monmouth-Roseville will have to wait a little longer to get their revenge as Rockridge got another win over the Titans, 44-27 in a Three Rivers Conference West Division match up. The Rockets led the game 22-11 at the half but the Titans would go on a 12-0 run to take a lead at 23-22. Rockridge responded with a 15 point run of their own and never looked back to improve to (14-4) overall and (3-1) in the West Division. The Titans were led in scoring by Carmyn Huston with 10 points. Monmouth-Roseville drops to (15-2) overall and (3-1) in the TRAC west.

There were four girls basketball games scheduled in the Lincoln Trail Conference, but West Central had one scheduled out of conference play. The Lady Heat beat BPC 59-37 behind 24 points from Shelby Bowman. BPC was led in scoring by Alyssa Zarello’s 17 points. In conference play, Abingdon-Avon knocked off Mercer County 55-27. A-Town was led by 18 points from Ashley Jones and 17 points from Brook Peeper. Bailey Dickerson was also in double figures for Abingdon-Avon with 14 points. Princeville beat Knoxville 55-49…….it was Ridgewood over Galva 56-40…..and Wethersfield over Stark County 52-13.   After four rounds of Lincoln Trail Conference action, there are four teams tied atop the standings at (3-1), including Abingon-Avon, Knoxville, Princeville and Ridgewood.

The United Red Storm junior high boys basketball team hosted Wethersfield last night at United Junior High. The 7th grade Red Storm beat the Geese 48-22. Kellan Boone had 12 to lead the Red Storm as nine total players scored for United.

On the local sports schedule for today….

Our first broadcast of the new calendar year happens tonight on Sunny 97.7 WMOI as the Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team takes the long trip to Prophetstown High School for a Three River Conference West Division match up against the Erie-Prophetstown Panther co-op. The (9-7) Titans will try get back in the win column after losing the Macomb/Western Holiday tournament consolation championship game last Wednesday. The Panthers enter tonight’s game at (7-4). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00, with our WMOI pregame show starting at 6:45. You can also listen online at radiomonmouth.com and click on the WMOI logo.

United is at Mercer County……West Central is at Knoxville and Abingdon-Avon goes to Annawan

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys have a make up game from December 11th at home against Rock Island

Macomb is at Lewistown and BPC heads to Sherrard

In high school wrestling, United, Illini West and West Hancock are all at Illini West

The red-hot Chicago Bulls beat the Orlando Magic 102-98 win in Chicago.  DeMar (DUH-MAR) DeRozan (DUH-ROW-ZUN) remained hot with 29 points, and Zach LaVine (LUH-VEEN) poured in 27.  The Bulls have won their last eight contests.
