Weather and covid issues knocked out some more local high school sports action last night. The Monmouth-Roseville girls basketball team had their Three Rivers Conference West Division match up at home against Orion postponed to January 29th. The Galesburg Silver Streak girls were supposed to play a Western Big Six Conference road game against Sterling but it was moved to Monday. BPC’s girls game against North Fulton was postponed, as was the West Prairie vs. ROWVA/Williamsfield non-conference contest. West Prairie hasn’t played a game in over 3 weeks and haven’t played in front of their home crowd in over 40 days.

There were a few girls games played last night, however. The United Red Storm girls returned to the court for their first game since December 18th. The Red Storm were on the road at West Central High School in Biggsville. The hosts hold the Red Storm to nine total second half points to get the 36-25 victory. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, West Central’s sophomore Shelby Bowman ended the game leading all scorers with 25 points, equaling the United team total. Luci Kane had 10 and Karragan Sperry had 9 to lead United. Both teams are now (7-8) overall. West Central is (2-1) in the Lincoln Trail Conference and United drops to (2-2) in league play.
It was Knoxville losing to Sherrard 53-31 in non-conference girls basktball action. With the win, Sherrard is (12-4), while Knoxville is (9-7).
In other non-con games, Elmwood is (16-3) after beating Ridgewood 63-29 and in LTC girls play, it was Princeville over Galva 56-33.
In the Three Rivers Conference, Rockridge keeps rolling along with a 60-38 win over Morrison. Rockridge is (15-4) overall and (4-1) in the TRAC West Division.
In junior high boys basketball at ICS Junior High last night, it was the host Trojans splitting a pair of games against United. United captures the the 7th grade game 51-4. 12 players got in the scoring column for United. ICS bounced back to get the 8th grade game 36-31. ICS’s Andrew Way led all scorers in the game with 22 points. Nolan Jenks had 11 for United. ICS has yet to lose a game this season.

On the sports schedule for tonight, we plan on having two games on the Prairie Communications Sports Network. The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team is scheduled to host Morrison at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville. If the game is played, our Sunny 97.7 WMOI pregame show will hit the air at 6:45. Our other potential game on the PCSN will come from United High School. The host Red Storm boys basketball team welcomes the Knoxville Blue Bullets to the Fieldhouse at United High School. The AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM pregame will start at around 7:15. Tune into the noon sports report to see if these games will still be played, with hazardous weather conditions expected today and tonight.
