Monmouth College’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Going Virtual

Share

Typically, Martin Luther King Junior Day is a big public event for Monmouth College students and staff as they attend classes in the morning, convocation at noon, and an afternoon of service within the community. Due to the ongoing coronavirus, the college has had to reschedule their afternoon of service; however, events are still being planned virtually to celebrate the day, informs Associate Vice President of Public Relations Duane Bonifer:

“We have rescheduled that and so we are not going to have the community service events in the community. We are looking for opportunities maybe to do some virtual community service and then the convocation itself will be online now as opposed to being in-person. So, that is an interesting way that we are going to have to adjust as well. We have had to do that with some speakers already throughout the pandemic. We have had speakers who have given talks over Zoom as opposed to in-person. We have had some during this school year who have given talks in-person, but we also do them on Zoom for people who can’t be there or don’t want to take the risk of being there. It has been a real interesting learning experience for everyone in terms of how to adapt.”

Monmouth College alum Ed Wimp will give this year’s convocation via Zoom at noon on Martin Luther King Junior Day, Monday, January 17th.
