Monmouth-Roseville Hosts Local Rival ICS for Non-Conference Jr. High Boys Basketball Action

Tuesday night brought together two local schools who have played together, and played against , and boys who are just good friends. The ICS Trojans traveled to Roseville to take on the Titans in Jr. High basketball. In the 7th grade matchup the Titans grabbed the win by a score of 31-14. Monmouth/Roseville would jump to an early lead in this one and never look back. Behind 4 first quarter points from Lars Bergren the Titans led 9-6 after one. The Trojans then went scoreless in the second quarter and the Titans would stretch their lead to 16-6 at the half. Bergren added 5 in the second. The Trojans and Titans would each score 6 in the third with Alex and Marc Simmons each scoring 3 to pace the Trojans. A 9-2 advantage by the Titans in the fourth helped the Titans secure the win. Leading the way for the Titans was Lars Bergren with 17 followed by Sang Lian with 5, Yahir Serna 4 and Carter Fry with 3. Scoring for the Trojans was Alex Simmons with 7, Marc Simmons 5 and Isaias Gatina 2.

In the 8th grade game the Trojans brought their sparkling 1 loss record to Roseville but the Titans were not impressed and put up a fight to the buzzer with ICS grabbing a 34-33 victory. Both teams went through some jitters in the opening period as the Trojans would lead after one 6-4 behind 4 from Nick Huston. Each team would score 10 points in the second quarter as Andrew Way had 6 for ICS and Landyn Angelo 4 for the Titans. The Trojans led 16-14 at the half. Way would add 8 more in the third for the Trojans but the Titans got baskets from four different player and this one would go to the final quarter 27-23 Trojans. Andrew Way would score 5 in the fourth for ICS and despite being outscored by the Titans 10-7 the Trojans would grab a fun, hard fought battle. Leading the way for the Trojans was Andrew Way with 20 followed by Nick Huston with 9 and Clay Casteel with 2. Leading the Titans was Landyn Angelo and Drew Carlson with 8 points each. Calogero Sarcomo added 7 while Ernesto Andrade and Elliott Rogers each had 5. Both 7th grade teams will play Saturday in the IESA Regionals while the 8th grade boys will wait for the following weekend. This was a great night of local basketball and the big winners were the fans who attended.
