UPDATE: Identity release and arrest made after pedestrian was struck and killed in McDonough County

On January12, 2022, at approximately 10:33 p.m. McDonough/Schuyler County 911 received a call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on North 1900th Road at approximately East 2000th Street. The caller stated that she had found a male on the side of the road who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Bushnell Fire, Bushnell Police, and Lifeguard Ambulance arrived at the scene along with the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office. The male victim, Steven Z. Strub-Lay, 29, of Bushnell was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of the McDonough County Coroner.

Detectives located the suspects vehicle in Bushnell at approximately 11:30 a.m. on January 13th. A male juvenile was taken into custody, and he is currently lodged in the Mary Davis Home in Galesburg, IL. The male juvenile was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident involving Death. Detectives continue to investigate the incident.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
