Rebecca “Becky” L. Whitenack, 80 of Abingdon, passed away at 6:35 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022 at her home, after a courageous battle against cancer that she handled her way.

  Becky was born July 3, 1941 in Avon, the daughter of Marvin G. and S. Marie (Plummer) McDermet.  She was raised by her grandparents, William R. and Elva P. McDermet.  She married the love of her life, Robert Whitenack on September 27, 1959 in Abingdon.  Bob preceded her in death on December 20, 2005.  She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Gladys Barstow of Colorado.

  She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1959.  She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church.  She currently worked as a cook in the cafeteria for the Abingdon School District and Abingdon/Avon School District, where she has been employed for 44 years.  She also cooked at the Ingersoll Scout Reservation near London Mills for several years.

  She is survived by one sister, Linda L. Mullis of Kentucky; a sister-in-law Liz Mitzel of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

  As she requested, no services will be held.  Becky will be laid to rest privately next to her beloved husband, Bob, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N.
