Sarah E. Mortimer, age 80, in Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:40 am on Monday January 3, 2022 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Sarah was born on July 17, 1941 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the daughter of Paul F. and Ruby E. Gratton Wade. She was raised in Galesburg where she attended local schools and attended Galesburg High School. Sarah first married Jack Hoopes and later married Glenn C. Wilson. She then married Raymond Mortimer on April 23, 1977 in Monmouth and he preceded her in his death on May 26, 2020. Sarah first was employed as a Waitress “Kirby” at the Huddle Drive-in Galesburg, Illinois. She then worked at Glastex Boats factory in Monmouth for several years, and lastly was employed at Western Stoneware in Monmouth as a Molder for twelve or thirteen year’s to her retirement and to it’s closing. Sarah was a die hard Chicago Cubs Fan and a Chicago Bears fan. She loved to roller skate in earlier years. Her main love was her family and grandchildren’s activities. She is survived by her daughters, Becky Swank and (Jeff Ernst) of Monmouth, IL; Janet Kronmilller-Lewark and David of Glendale, Arizona; sons, Paul Wilson and Terrie of Summerville, South Carolina; and Willy Hoopes of Monmouth, Illinois. There are eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren surviving. Also surviving are three sisters, Paula Wade of Galesburg, IL, and Freeda and Tim Woods of East Peoria, IL, and Kay Coziahr and Perry of Cambridge, Illinois. Three brothers, Bobby and Sylvia Wade, Johnny and Penny Wade both of Galesburg, IL. and Bill Wade and Sheila of Nashville, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, six sisters, and two brothers.
A memorial service is planned on Thursday January 6, 2022 at 7:00 pm. Her family plans to receive family and friends at Turnbull Funeral Home for a visitation 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday January 6, 2022. A memorial fund is being established for her family.
