United Girls Varsity Open with a Win in the LTC Tourney

The United Red Storm girls opened play Thursday night in the LTC tournament. The 6th seeded Red Storm girls knocked off the 10th seed Galva Wildcats by a score of 45-43. Galva started out with the early lead in this one as they would carry a 13-10 lead into the second quarter. Luci Kane and Katie Flynn each had 5 in the first. Karragan Sperry had 7 in the second quarter to lead the Red Storm but Galva still led at the half 23-21. The tight ballgame continued through the third as the Red Storm finally grabbed the lead as Sperry had 6 in the quarter and United led 35-33 after three. The game remained back and forth through the fourth quarter with Laney Butler hitting two big three pointers to help lead United in the final quarter to the big win. Leading scorers for United were Karragan Sperry with 16 and Luci Kane with 11. Laney Butler added 7, Katie Flynn 5 while Ellie Robinson and Reece Bertelsen each had 3. Bertelsen also led the team with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The Red Storm will continue play on Saturday as they take on Knoxville at 6pm in Wyoming.
