Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 23, 2022:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Belle Thompson. Belle, the lone senior on her team, filled up the stat sheet in three games last week. She scored five points a game, hauled down an average of five rebounds and handed out two assists per contest. Belle showed her experience at the free throw line, making all of her attempts during the week.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman wrestler, Quentin Hayburn. Quentin took 6th place at the Orion Bob Mitton Memorial Invitational Tournament. Wrestling in the 220 pound weight class, he garnered a pin among his wins. Quentin’s great tournament shows what he’s capable of as a future Red Storm grappler.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Mason Carnes. As the season starts to wind down, Mason has started to heat up. He averaged 12 points a game last week. Mason’s highest output was a season-high 21 points in a narrow lost to Stark County, including three, 3-pointers and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Jeremiah Babers. Jeremiah led the Streaks in scoring in both of their scheduled games last week. He averaged just under 20 points a game. Jeremiah had 24 in a win over Morton, which was just one off his career-high that he had set in his previous game.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Brook Pieper. Brook had an outstanding Lincoln Trail Conference tournament. She helped lead her team to the tourney title by averaging nearly 17 points in A-Town’s four wins. Brook also led her team in rebounding for the tournament, as well.
