Charles Marshall Poland, 78 of Abingdon, passed away at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his home with his family at his side.

He was born December 1, 1943 in Monmouth, the son of James Robert and Catherine Irene (Powell) Poland. He married Connie Shinn on October 6, 1963 at the Abingdon Christian Church.

Marshall is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Connie; his children, Dawn (Kert) Scalf of rural Abingdon, Dianna (Charles Sullivan) Poland of Gilson and Darrin (Tammy) Poland of rural Abingdon; 3 grandchildren, Dalton Scalf, Chaise (Kiersten) Poland and Kennedi Poland, one brother, Dennis (Judy) Poland of Abingdon and their family.

Marshall graduated from Abingdon High School in 1962. He has lived in Abingdon most of his life. He worked as a Banbury Operator at Gates Rubber Company for 38 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He was also a member of the NRA and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, mushroom hunting, and helping others in need. He even raced motorcycles in his younger days along with John Funk. People will remember the “Big Guy” driving his John Deere tractor around town and later riding his electric wheelchair scooter.

As he requested, cremation will be accorded. A time to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting his family with his arrangements.
