Darrel G. Simpson, 56 of Galesburg, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Journey Care Hospice in Chicago.

  He was born August 15, 1965 in Galesburg, the son of Melton D. and Patty (Lindsey) Simpson.  He was preceded in death by his father, Melton Simpson, and his mother and stepfather, Patty and C.W. Alwardt.

  Darrel is survived by his sister, Lorelee Simpson (and Wayne Galpin) of Galesburg; one half-brother, Travis Simpson of Gallatin, Tennessee; two nephews, Kevin and Drew and one niece, Britney; one great nephew, Mason; his aunts, Peggy (Carl, III) Kennett of Camp Verde, Arizona and Carol McCall of Abingdon; and his uncles, Tom Simpson of Galesburg and Bill Simpson of Galva; and several cousins and their families.

  Darrel grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1983.  He served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard.  He worked in factories and later was an electrician and last worked in Home Health Care.  He loved playing his guitar and jamming with his buddies.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.  A time to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.  Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
