Despite Season-Long Challenges, Monmouth College Women’s Basketball Qualifies for MWC Tournament

The Monmouth College women’s basketball team also lost at Lawrence yesterday, 68-54, but their season will continue as the Scots finished in second place in the Midwest Conference.

The Fighting Scots qualified for the Midwest Conference tournament, despite not being picked to finish in the Top 4 at the beginning of the season. The team was 10-6 in the conference and 13-9 overall. Monmouth College’s Sports Information Director, Nathan Baliva, spoke on some of the challenges that the team faced and overcame this season.

The team has beat the odds and they are headed to the tournament this weekend, and they will be facing Knox for their first game. Head Coach Megan Jones made school history for both most conference wins and most overall wins for a first year coach.

The time has not been set for Monmouth College’s first round game on Friday, as Ripon College is hosting both the men’s and women’s tournaments this weekend because the Red Hawk men and women both won the regular season conference title. Tune into the WMOI/WRAM sports reports this week and we’ll pass whatever information that we get along.
