Galesburg Vocational Center Seeks Addition of SkillsUSA Chapter

Share

The Galesburg Area Vocational Center has plans to participate in the nationwide SkillsUSA program that recognizes student achievement in career technical education — much like the IHSA does in varsity athletic competition.

Ken Springer, president of the Knox County Area Partnership, shares some of the details and background of the program:

“It’s basically a competition that takes the spirit of varsity sports and applies it to career technical education,” Springer said Monday, during a “Community Hour” interview with WRAM host Vanessa Wetterling. “There are local, state and national competitions in welding, culinary arts, nursing and web design, just to name a few.

“It’s a way for students to receive some recognition, and to provide incentive and motivation to participate in these programs.”
