The ICS Trojans 8th grade boys punched their ticket to the Class 1A state finals on Wednesday night by beating Limestone Walters 40-20. The win moves the Trojans to an overall record of 25-2 and a 1:00 match up on Saturday against (18-3) Ottawa Marquette. The Trojans grabbed an 8-5 lead after one quarter behind 5 points from Nick Huston and 3 from Clay Casteel. Andrew Way scored 5 in the second quarter as the Trojan would go to the locker room with a 16-12 halftime lead. The Trojans would extend their lead with an 11-6 scoring advantage in the third quarter to lead 27-18 after three periods. The Trojans put any thought of a Limestone comeback to bed early in the fourth as their defense held Limestone to just 2 points, while scoring 13 themselves which set off a celebration by the team and their fans. The Trojans used balanced scoring in this one as 6 players would score led by Andrew Way with 12 and 10 from Nick Huston. Also contributing were Clay Casteel with 8 while Alex Simmons added 7, Marc Simmons added 2 and Elijah Noel 1. The Trojans will play their State Tournament at Auburn High School in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
