Early Morning Garage Fire in Monmouth

GARAGE FIRE ON SOUTH D STREET IN MONMOUTH: At approximately 2 a.m. Friday, February 4, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to 708 South D Street for a report of a structure fire

Engine 23 and Ladder 40 arrived on scene and found an unattached garage with fire showing from the north end of the structure that was extending into the interior of the second-floor attic area. Incident command requested a second alarm for additional firefighters and an ambulance to the scene.

Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire from the exterior before making entry into the second floor of the structure to extinguish any remaining fire.

The majority of the fire was knocked down quickly and the firefighters remained on scene for several hours to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

MFD was assisted by the Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service and the Monmouth Police Department. There were no reported injuries and all fire companies cleared the scene at approximately 4:45 a.m.
