Jesse Sullivan: We Need a Next-Generation of Moral Leadership in Springfield

Share

Petersburg native Jesse Sullivan stopped in Monmouth Friday afternoon as part of his statewide “Truck Tour,” during which he outlined some of the key priorities he will emphasize as a Republican candidate for governor.

“I love Central Illinois, it’s core to who I am,” Sullivan said, while being interviewed by WRAM “Community Hour” host Vanessa Wetterling. “To be a Midwesterner, to be an Illinoisan, is like the black prairie soil and the oak tree, planted firmly and deeply. That’s what I want to be as a human being — a good husband and a good father.”

Sullivan went further.

“I don’t see those values reflected in our government,” he said. “I’m proud to be from Illinois (Petersburg), but it’s always despite our government, not because of our government.

“Wouldn’t it be amazing to wake up and have a next-generation of moral leaders, because they are virtuous and share our Midwestern values. I think that’s a message that voters want to hear.”

During the interview, Sullivan also emphasized his support of small businesses and the important roles they play in the statewide economy.

“They (small business owners) are the real heroes,” Sullivan said. “They put everything they have into business, so that others can success as well.”
