The Monmouth College men’s basketball team lost at Cornell College 82-38 on Thursday in their second of four games this week. The game between the Scots (3-14, 2-7) and Rams (12-5, 7-1) was originally scheduled for Jan. 18 but was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.

Kendall Brasfield (Chicago, Illinois) scored the Scots first basket to tie the game 2-2. Cornell went on a 10-0 run before Jordan Metcalf (Aledo, Illinois) scored with 15:28 to play in the half. The Rams pushed the lead to 23-4 with an 11-0 run and then went up 26-6.

Cornell led 39-13 when Ganon Greenman (Alpha, Illinois) scored with a layup. Monmouth got a basket from Declan Flynn (Monmouth, Illinois) and two from Brasfield in the final two minutes of the half as they trailed 47-23 at the break. Metcalf led the way in the first half with 10 points while Brasfield had six.

Only Brasfield played more than 19 minutes in the game and two starters played less than 15 minutes. Overall the Scots used 18 players on Thursday with eight scoring. Metcalf led the Scots with 16 points while Brasfield had eight. Monmouth plays at Grinnell at 1 p.m. on Saturday, then hosts Grinnell at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
