Mildred E. Huber, 83 of Abingdon, passed away at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born May 8, 1938 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Hazel M. (Robinson) Fry. She married Jack L. “Polecat” Huber on December 18, 1954 in Silvis, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carol Ann Klinebough, two sons, Joseph Huber and Gary Huber, Sr., one daughter-in-law, Jill Huber, two sons-in-law, William Klinebough and Tom Horsford, two brothers, Howard “Bud” Fry and Gene Fry, and three great-grandchildren, Marcus, Elliot, and Sammy.
Mildred is survived by her children, Frank Huber, Chris Horsford, Rose (Alan) Flynn, Shelly (Dale Brummett) Jones, Roy (Suzie) Huber and Jack Huber, Jr., all of Abingdon. Mildred has over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and she adored every one of them. She has two brothers, Loren (Carol) Fry of Wisconsin and Raymond (Arlene) Fry of Coal Valley and several nieces, nephews, and their families.
She grew up in the Morningstar, Iowa area and later met the “Love of her life,” Jack, in the Cleveland, Illinois area. She has lived in the Abingdon area since 1972. She loved to sew and do embroidery, crochet and work search a word puzzles while watching her favorite daytime soap opera, The Young and Restless, or watching her favorite game show, The Price is Right. She also enjoyed reading her Danielle Steel books. But most of all, she loved spending time with all her family, and she was thankful for her long, happy life.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Marty Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the use of facemasks by those attending services is suggested.
