Natural Hazards Mitigation Meeting to be Held March 1 at Meks on Main

The frequency and damages caused by severe storms and other natural hazards in Warren County will be discussed when the Warren County Natural Hazards Mitigation Planning Committee meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Meks on Main, 201 N. Main St. in Monmouth.

“The goal of this committee meeting is to identify how often severe weather events occur within the county and what kinds of damages have resulted,” said Warren County ESDA Coordinator Casey Rexroat. “Based on this information we will begin to compile lists of activities and projects to reduce damages caused by these events.”

The focus of this effort is on natural hazards — severe thunderstorms with damaging winds or hail, tornadoes, snow and ice storms, floods, drought, and excessive heat.

Interested persons can provide input at the meeting or submit comments and questions to their municipal or county representatives.

Participants include the County, Lenox Township, Alexis, Little York, Monmouth, and Roseville, as well as the Alexis Fire Protection District, Central Warren Fire Protection District-Cameron, Little York Fire Protection District, Immaculate Conception School, Monmouth-Roseville CUSD #238, United CUSD #304, and Monmouth College.

“This plan will be our best resource for determining how to prepare for storms and other natural hazards,” Rexroat said. “After the plan is completed, comprehensive information will be available in one document to help guide those who are making decisions about how to better protect Warren County residents.”
