Phyllis K. Johnson, age 79, of Biggsville, Illinois passed away suddenly at her residence in Biggsville, on Thursday February 24, 2022 at 3:45 pm. Phyllis was born on August 8, 1942 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Orville A. and Ruth Ann Johnson Turner. She was raised in their home on the Cameron Blacktop and attended local rural schools. She then attended and graduated from Warren High School in the class of 1960. Phyllis married Jimmie D. Johnson on November 19, 1960 in Monmouth, Illinois. He passed away on May 14, 2008. Phyllis was a wife and horse trainer and assisted her husband Jimmie at Twin J. Stables over 50 years. Their stables were first in Nauvoo, Illinois and later and most of the time, in the community of Biggsville, Illinois. Phyllis is a member of the Illinois State Stockhorse Association, the Lomax Saddle Club, the Tri-county Saddle Club, the Warren County Saddle Club, and the American Paint Horse Association. She enjoyed attending horse shows, county fairs, and horse sales with her husband, Jimmie. Phyllis loved to bale hay with her husband for their horses, and loved her dogs, cats, and all of her horses. She also loved to cook Christmas Dinner for her family. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Pence and Steve of Lomax, Illinois, and her granddaughter, Samantha Howe and Tyler of Niota, Illinois. She has one great granddaughter, Laura also in Niota, and several step Grandchildren. Phyllis is preceded in her death by her parents and her husband Jimmie.
Her family plans a visitation and will receive their friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka on Thursday March 3, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Words of her committal will be at 6:00 pm following visitation at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established for Rainbow Riders in Monmouth, Illinois.
