The Regional Office of Education #33 Behavioral Health Support Services Program is the WMOI and WRAM February Educator Program of the Month. Director Jessica Donaldson shares how the program assists local educators and families:

“We have behavioral health consultants from pre-natal all the way through 12th grade. Then we also have a family support specialist. I personally go in and do a lot of the training for educators. I do a lot of work around helping them to understand brain development through a brain-based model, which really is important because then they are better able to understand their behavior and how it impacts the school environment, but also puts them to understanding a students’ behavior. I do a lot of work around educators really being able to know if that behavior is a product of maybe how their brain was developed from the time they were born or is it something that is situational in that moment. When they have that understanding they can address the behaviors and get the students back to a place where they are ready to learn.”
