Roy E Dober of Monmouth, IL passed on Thursday, February 24, 2022 peacefully with family at his side, at the age of 88.

Roy was born August 9, 1933 in Schuyler County, IL and attended local schools there.

He married the love of his life, Betty J. Whiteside on April 11, 1953 and she preceded him death on September 1, 2008.  They met while they were both young folks living and working in Roseville, IL.  Betty was a waitress and Roy greatly enjoyed eating at that restaurant and, of course, visiting with Betty.

Roy served 2 years with U.S. Army from 1954-1956 as a PFC in Germany with the First Division.

Roy worked on a local farm, Caterpillar, construction and later served as Head Carpenter for Monmouth College for over 42 years before retiring in 1999.  After his retirement, Betty and Roy enjoyed traveling in their RV and fishing at their vacation home on Lake Warren in Monmouth.

Roy lived most of his adult life in Warren County, IL and had many friends and family there. He will be greatly missed by all of them for his gentle smile and quiet kindness to others.

Betty and Roy have one son who survives them, Terry L. (Vicky) Dober of Springfield, MO.; 2 grandsons, Brandon Dober and Blake Dober both of Springfield, MO.; 2 great grandchildren, Christian (Miah Vance) Dober and Cameryn Dober; his great great granddaughter, Kaleah Dober; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Frances Roate and May Lawver; brothers, Henry Dober, Charles Dober, Dale Dober and Loren Dober; and his special sister-in-law, Carol Whiteside.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, March 4, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Entombment with Military Honors will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Monmouth VFW or the Monmouth American Legion and sent to the funeral home.    For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
