Statewide Mask Mandate Coming to End Next Week

Share

The statewide mask mandate is coming to an end in a week. But Governor JB Pritzker says even though the state won’t have a mandate, local governments can enact them, and businesses are always free to establish their own rules.

“Businesses, private businesses can do what is best for their business, what is best for their employees and their customers. We encourage mitigations if they feel like that is the right thing to do in the space they are in or the kind of business they are in.”

The mandate for mask wearing in places like grocery stores ends on February 28th. But masks will still be required in long term care settings and on public transportation that is governed by federal law.
