On February 24, 2022, at approximately 6:33 p.m. the McDonough County Sheriff Office responded to a report of a large fire at 240 East Vine Street in Good Hope, IL. The Good Hope/Sciota Fire Protection District responded to the BP Gas Station in Good Hope for two vehicles fully engulfed in flames near the gas station. The Macomb Fire Department also responded.

An individual was attempting to syphon fuel from one vehicle to another when both vehicles caught fire from an apparent explosion. During the initial response one of the Good Hope Firefighters had an unknown medical issue while fighting the fire. Efforts were made to revive the Firefighter, and he was transported to MDH where he was then transported to an out of are hospital.

The vehicle fire was extinguished, and the gas station was not damaged by the fire. The Macomb Fire Department, Blandinsville Fire Department, and Bushnell Fire Department assisted with the fire. The Illinois State Police along with the Illinois Department of Transportation assisted as well with the incident.

We would like to remind everyone that Volunteer Fireman risk their lives every day to keep our community safe. Please keep the Good Hope/Sciota Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers.
