United Red Storm Girls Basketball Picks Up Win on Senior Night

Monday night girls basketball action at United High School saw Stark County in for a Lincoln Trail Conference tussle. In the JV game, the Red Storm controlled the first quarter, outscoring Stark County 8-0. The Red Storm continued to control things in the second quarter using a full court press to cause numerous turnovers from the visitors. The Red Storm led 18-6 at the half, behind 5 from Ava Anderson, 4 each from Alayna Penn and Addison Gillen. The Red Storm continued to control the game in the third, outscoring Stark County 10-0 behind 5 from Ava Anderson to lead 27-6 after 3. With the big lead, the Red Storm seemed to sleep-walk through the fourth, being outscored 13-5 but hung on for the 33-19 victory. Leading the way for United was Ava Anderson with 10 followed by Alayna Penn with 5. Also scoring was Katie Flynn, Addison Gillen and Taylor Anderson all with 4. Emma Robinson and Emma Austin each added 3.

In the Varsity game, United came out on Senior night before a big crowd and jumped to a 16-4 lead after one period behind 10 points from Luci Kane. The second quarter lead would get up to 26-9. Three-pointers by Luci Kane, Laney Butler, Addyson Trego and Madison Penn would stretch the lead to 33-11 at the half. With the big lead, seniors Laney Butler, Devine Chepape, Luci Kane , Madison Penn, Ellie Robinson, Karragan Sperry and Addyson Trego were looking to end the night with a flourish. A 21-4 advantage for United made it 54-15 after three. Reece Bertelsen had 6 and Laney Butler 5 to highlight the run. The fourth quarter was anti climatic except for the large student section who were cheering every time exchange-student Devine Chepape touched the ball. The running clock made for a quick quarter with the Red Storm enjoying a 62-24 win. Leading the way was Luci Kane with 17 followed by Reece Bertelsen and Laney Butler with 10 apiece. Madison Penn had 7 while Ellie Robinson and Karragan Sperry had 5 each while Addyson Trego had 3, Katie Flynn and Ayden Penn 2 each and Emma Robinson 1.
