Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 30, 2022:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Carmyn Huston. Carmyn was nearly unstoppable in two games last week for the Titans. She averaged 20 points and double digit rebounds against Rockridge and Kewanee. Carmyn was also money from the free throw line, going 16-for-20 in those contests.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Nolan Leffler. Nolan played well, both on offense and defense, in his team’s four wins last week. He averaged nine points and three rebounds, made five 3-pointers and was 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Nolan also played solid defense, getting an average of two steals per game.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman girls basketball player, Harlee Hainds. Harlee is playing well down the stretch for the Lady Heat. Last week, she averaged nine points and five rebounds a game in three wins. Never one to shy away from physical play, Harlee also averaged three steals on defense, as well.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athletes of the Week are the three wrestlers that claimed Western Big Six Conference championships. Senior Jeremiah Morris won the 220 pound weight class. Sophomore Gauge Shipp claimed the 120 pound class and fellow sophomore Rocky Almendarez garnered the 126 pound title. All three wrestlers are ranked in the Class 2A top-10 on illinoismatmen.com.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Easten Schisler. Easten put on an amazing performance last week as the Tornadoes won three of four games, including a pair of victories in the Lincoln Trail Conference. He averaged 27 points a game, along with a pair of games with at least ten rebounds. Easten helped the Tornadoes get to the tournament’s final four.
