Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 6, 2022:The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athletes of the Week are boys wrestlers, seniors Andrew Gunn and Gabe Oritz-Mora and freshman Caleb Dillard. With their performances at the Farmington Class 1A regional, all three young men qualified for the Stanford Olympia Sectionals. Andrew placed 2nd in the 182 pound class. Gabe was 3rd in the 145 pound class and Caleb placed 3rd in the 106 pound weight class.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys wrestler, Jake McElwee. Jake qualified for the Class 1A Stanford Olympia Sectionals by his great finish at the Farmington Regional meet. He earned a 2nd place place medal in the 152 pound weight class. Jake went (1-1) with his victory coming by way of pinfall.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls bowler, Allie Strack. Allie rolled a 6-game series of 990 at the Rock Island Regional meet at Highland Park Bowl in Moline. That score was good enough to place her 21st overall on the day. It also was enough to send Allie to the LaSalle-Peru Sectional meet at Illinois Valley Super Bowl in Peru.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athletes of the Week are senior Chloe Day and junior Ellie Shinn. Both girls had fantastic weeks on the bowling lanes. Chloe started the week by winning the WB6 conference championship, with Ellie also getting an all-conference finish in 5th. They ended the week by qualifying for sectionals by each getting top-four places at the Rock Island regional. Chloe placed 2nd and Ellie was 4th overall.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls bowler, Mary Ella Tucker. Mary Ella had a fantastic day at the Rock Island regional meet at Highland Park Bowl in Moline. She posted a 6-game score of 1028, which was the 11th best overall score of the day. That sent Mary Ella to the upcoming LaSalle-Peru Sectional.
