Henderson County Deputies Respond to Car vs. School Bus

Henderson County Chief Deputy Matthew Link reports on March 25th, 2022 at 7:42AM, Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident (car vs. loaded school bus) on IL Rt. 164 at Township Road 1450E in the Township of Oquawka, east of Oquawka.

Michael R. Russell of Oquawka, IL, age: 42 driving a 2007 Buick Park Avenue was west bound on IL Rt. 164, near Township Road 1450E, losing control of his vehicle striking the rear drivers side tire of the West Central School’s Bus. The 2022 Thomas School Bus was driven by Candida R. Robertson of Oquawka, IL, age: 47. The school bus was transporting 37 West Central Students to school. Both of the vehicles sustained major damages.

There were no injuries reported and all of the students on the school bus were evaluated by EMS crews.

Russell was issued two citations, one for Improper Lane Usage and the second citation was for No Insurance on a Motor Vehicle. Russell’s court date is 04/27/2022 at 10:00AM.

Assisting agencies were the Oquawka Ambulance Service, the Biggsville Ambulance Service, the Stronghurst Ambulance Service, the Burlington Fire Department Ambulance, the Oquawka Fire Department, the Gladstone Fire Department and Berg’s Towing.
