At the end of February, the Knox County Board approved the $70 million Blackberry Solar Project, which will cover 380 acres and generate around $5 million in new property taxes over the life of the project. Knox County Area Partnership President Ken Springer shares how those interested can be involved:
“For those that are interested in looking at job opportunities within the solar industry, the place to start is actually with the Laborers Local 538, which is a local laborers group here in town. They have an open enrollment for their training programs on the first Tuesday of every month. If you want to check that out or get some more information, you can go to www.illaborers.org. They have training programs that do solar installation, which is going to be a really busy field here over the next 10 years.”
The 380 acres solar project will be located just south of the Galesburg city limits along South Farnham Road and County Road 10.
