The Monmouth College lacrosse team suffered their first home loss of the season with a 13-5 afternoon setback to Trine University on Tuesday. The Scots (2-2) got all five goals from Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) and Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois).

Knapp gave the Scots a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. Trine tied the game just over a minute later and Donohoo made it 2-1 with 7:12 to play in the first quarter. The Thunder got even three minutes later and the first quarter ended 2-2.

Monmouth went back on top 3-2 when Knapp scored 2:16 into the second quarter with another unassisted goal. Trine scored the next four goals and led 6-3 when Knapp scored with the Scots up a man. The Thunder scored three goals in 42 seconds to take a 9-4 lead into the halftime break.

Trine scored the only three goals of the third quarter and led 12-4 at the start of the fourth. Donohoo scored his second goal of the game, unassisted, with 8:56 to play. Trine got the final tally of the game with 5:33 left to win 13-5.

The Scots were outshot 57-22 and Teagan Simons (Littleton, Colorado) made 26 saves for the second straight game. That tally is one save shy of the Monmouth single-game record. Donohoo led the Scots with eight shots and Knapp led the team with six shots on goal as the duo combined for all five goals.

Monmouth is next in action on Saturday at Illinois Tech with a 3 p.m. start. The next home game is scheduled for Saturday, April 8 at 4 p.m. against North Central (MN) which is also the Midwest Conference opener.
