Monmouth-Roseville High School was one of the satellite sites for the 2022 IHSA Solo and Ensemble Music Competition on Saturday. The Monmouth-Roseville Vocal Department captured their 10th Class B State Championship in a row with a new school record of 372 points. That total included 66 Superior Ratings. In the Instrumental category, Monmouth-Roseville’s band placed 3rd in the state and the strings placed 4th. Monmouth-Roseville received 37 Superior Ratings. Kendall Ferry’s Marimba Solo and Henry Tibbetts-Zesbaugh’s Guitar Solo were given perfect scores and Best of the Day Awards. Vocal and Instrumental scores combined puts Monmouth-Roseville currently in 1st place in the state in Class B, 132 points ahead of Rockridge High School with just the Organizational Contest left to be held on April 8th at Rockridge High School. Monmouth-Roseville won their first overall championship last year.
The United High School Band placed 4th in the Class C standings with 210 points. That was just four points away from placing 2nd all by themselves in the entire state of Illinois. All 40 band events earned a 1 or 2 rating, with one being best, from the judges for the day. Grant Gillen and Jonathan Grodjesk were both awarded Best of Day Awards. Overall, the United Music Department is in 5th place heading into the Organizational Contest in April.
