Phone scam alert going around

Share

The McDonough County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a recent scam phone call. A phone call was received where a male on the other line began by advising the complainant, he was in serious trouble due to a suspicious package located across the border. The caller indicated to our complainant that he was facing serious charges and he would be taken into custody if he did not comply. The caller then asked the complainant if he wished to speak with an officer about the situation. This could also be happening in other counties as well.
Be aware! Do not give out any personal information over the phone. Just hang up.
