Community activists are calling for an end to lower minimum wage paid to waitresses, bartenders, and tipped service workers. They staged a rally yesterday in downtown Chicago.
“It is hard for us workers, who would like to go back to work, but they are not, you know, raising the wage.”
Protestors are calling on the state Legislature to pass House Bill 5139, which will push the minimum wage for employees who work for tips to the state’s minimum wage. Servers and bartenders who receive tips currently earn seven dollars and 20 cents an hour minimum wage.
